ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME HISTORY* “THE WINTER DANCE PARTY” as told by Dion

A documentary currently in pre-production.
The documentaries foundation is Dion’s account of befriending Buddy Holly in NYC in 1958. Dion recalls memories of the friends headlining the “Winter Dance Party” tour in 1959 with Ritchie Valens,The Big Bopper (J.P). The tour on which the fatal plane crash occurred that took Buddy’s, Ritchie’s, and J.P’s lives. There’s been countless versions of this historic event told in many forms including movies, books and plays.

In 2011 Dion released a book “The Wanderer Talks Truth” and in chapter 6 he recollects his account, “The Day The Music Was Born” diondimucci.com/bio.html

This documentary will include interviews from musicians, historians, family and friends. The audience will be taken back in time as stories are told with historic photos, film and a soundtrack complete with hits from that era.

I was honoured with the Special Achievement Award in Entertainment at the National Italian American Foundation’s 36th anniversary gala in Washington, D.C.
My friend for many years Frankie Avalon presented me with this latest accolade.

Charles Messina writes a Play:: What I have tried to create is an entertaining and enlightening stage production based on the life and music of Dion.I wanted to get to the essence of Dion’s story — to the drama of it — as I experienced it thru my discussions with Dion, my evaluation of the facts of his life, his music, and my own approach as to what makes a theatrical production work. I was fascinated with Dion’s spiritual journey and I think this play is a glimpse into that journey. Dion has said his life is like The Sopranos with Great Music. I have called it RAGING BULL WITH MUSIC. A great story with great music, and a spiritually uplifting ending of hope.
I call it THE WANDERER — A Story of Rock and Roll Redemption.
